Natural remedies , medication to treat hair loss , also know as male pattern baldness , female pattern baldness ( in women ) and androgenetic alopecia ( in men ) .

Saw Palmetto : Is a natural plant extract  , a supplement commonly used to treat prostate problem , there is not any blunt study to prove that it reduce DHT ( the number one hormone that cause hair loss ) . However , many people tell that it works to treat hair loss . The daily average dosage is 400 mg and is easily to obtain since is otc supplement and many well know companies produce it . It can be taken with or without food and you can split the dosage in two takes . You can find success story in many hair loss forum

Beta sistosterol :Is another natural plant extract , that have been also successfully used to trear prostate problems such as Benign prostatic hyperplasia . There is one study that tested both plant extract that show that it works in 60% of the subject test . it was performance by Clinical Research and Development Network, Aurora, CO, USA. In the year 2006 , you can find the abstract in pubmed site ( is dot gov ) . Also you can find it in a hair loss forum . Average dosage is 200 mg per day and could be take it with or without food . I found a guy on a hair loss forum who take 1gr per day , that is simple insane .

Zinc and Vitamin B6 : There only one study , did it in Vitro ( not in humans or animals ) that show the capacity to reduce DHT . It is suggest to be use it as topical , one application per day .

Green Tea Extract : Simple forget about it , the most recent studies show that it actually increase DHT . I never read any post in any hair loss forum that prove that it help.

Alternative drugs to treat hair loss , besides the one approves by the FDA

Alternative drugs to treat hair loss , besides the one approves by the FDA ( finasteride and Minoxidil )

Avodart : Better than finasteride , it reduce more DHT than finasteride ( in Clinical phase 2 studies the average hair count was 45 % greater with Dutasteride ( 2,5mg per day ) Vs Finasteride ( 5 mg per day ) . The medicine is available to treat Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) since the end of the year 2002 . I found on many hair loss forum people talking that they are getting better results from Dutasteride than Finasteride . The recommended dosage is 0,5mg to 2,5mg . it could be take with or without food. If it give you stomach problem take it at night before going to bed ,I learn this trick from a hair loss forum poster

Spironolactone : An antiandrogen that block the receptor for DHT of the follicle . The great thing about it is that it can be apply it topically without systemic effect . The only withdraw is that it could have a really bad smell , people usually put it at night  before bed and then in the more in clean it . The recommended dosage is 2% to 5 % in one or two applications . The lotion should be keep it refrigerate .

Fluridil : Another antiandrogen that suppresses the human androgen receptor topically without systemic effects  but it is pretty new , was release during the year 2002 .

Ketoconazole  : One of the best antiandrogen , is so good that it even works as shampoo . there are several studies that prove the effectiveness to treat male pattern baldness as shampoo and as cream/lotion

Remember to give it at least 6 month to see any results and take photos every month to could make objective comparison , the ideal is to show it on a hair loss forum and get opinions . The best is to do a combo , use at least 2 of this medicines and you will get better results . Share your results in a hair loss forum.
